Marcela Ishicava is Brazilian and currently lives between her hometown and Chaniá, Greece. The sensitivity of the artist born in 1994 in the city of Itatiba, SP, transports people around the world to their deepest “selves”.

In her paintings, she portrays moments from her own life, using faces other than her own that are often interconnected somehow.

Her illustrations bring memories to life and create impossible moments, such as reuniting with someone who has passed away.  Her delicate and unique style, she immortalizes stories all over the world.

Marcela is an LGBT and spiritual woman, and uses her art as an intimate moment between her “selves” in each work and the “selves” of the viewer. And in different aspects, and moments of vulnerability, it generates moments of introspection, self-accessibility and representation.

The media vary according to the connection with each work, and the right music is the key to starting the entire creation process.

“Art was my best friend for a long time, and it still is” says an artist who has been passionate about music since she was three years old.

 —-

“Too sensitive” was how I was described since childhood. This criticism fits me like a glove today, since my art is described by many as “visceral, affective, and of course, sensitive”.

I started with music, which made me understand myself as an artist; later, photography made me want more than just capturing moments; and the tattoo made me want to mark other bodies. Today I find myself surrounded by brushes, paints and an iPad.

I use different media for each story.  Faces, shapes and styles, each work reveals me in clear or implied ways. In the lightness and transparency of watercolor, in the solidity of acrylic brushstrokes, and in the precision of digital illustrations and their captivating details.

As one of my greatest inspirations said, “Where you can’t love, don’t delay”.

My work is thirsty for connection, even if it is often silent and shy.

Connection between exposed hearts, spending time diving into themselves, in this life or past ones. Connection between souls through art.
